Hertz breaks stadium record and Cook breaks school record to highlight final day of Red Raider Open

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – Junior Emma Hertz set a stadium record in the women's shot put and Amber Cook broke the school record in the women's hammer throw to highlight the performances of the University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams at the Red Raider Open on Saturday (April 20) afternoon.

Women's team highlights
USF was highlighted by a strong day from the field events which was led by Hertz who took first in the shot put (15.22-meters, 49' 11.25"), second in the discus (48.77-meters, 160' 00") and fifth in the hammer throw (49.46-meters, 162' 03"). Hertz's shot put mark was a NCAA DII provisional distance as was her throw in the discus.

Cook broke the USF program record in the hammer throw after posting a second place finish with a toss of 51.80-meters (169' 11"). Teammate Jaimie McNamee took third in the event at 49.85-meters (163' 06") while Kayla Anderson was sixth after a 47.81-meter (156' 10") toss.

USF sophomore Allison Laibach finished first in the triple jump at 10.90-meters (35' 09.25"). She beat Southwest Minnesota State freshman Virginia Pederson (10.89-meters, 35' 08.75") by less than an inch. USF freshman Clara Leverich was seventh with a jump of 9.56-meters (31' 04.50").

Freshman Taylor Stoltz claimed fifth in the high jump at 1.58-meters (5' 01.00"). Also in the jumps, junior Mahli Strasser placed fifth in the long jump at 5.16-meters (16' 11.25"). Teammate Clara Paul took seventh with a distance of 5.07-meters (16' 07.75").

Men's team highlights
USF junior hurdler Jacob Morse took second in the 110-meter hurdles by clocking a 14.79 as he was one of two men's athletes to finish second.

Christian Gruschin also placed second overall in the discus throw after tossing the oval a NCAA DII provisional mark of 50.57-meters (165' 11"). Teammate Chandler Nelson claimed fifth in the event at 48.75-meters (159' 11").

In the high jump, Joseph Kirkebak took sixth at 1.90-meters (6' 02.75").

Ethan Holm claimed ninth in the men's decathlon after accumulating 4,850 points in the event.

USF will next compete in the USD Twilight meet on Tuesday, April 23 in Vermillion, S.D.
