NEW ORLEANS – For the seventh straight year, the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team was awarded team and individual honors for academic success by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). USF, led by Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Peterson, earned men's and women's All-Academic team awards while 11 student-athletes were honored individually.
To be honored as an All-Academic team, the program must maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. The award combines the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.
The women's squad was honored for it's cumulative GPA of 3.55, which was in the top 10 best of the 130 women's teams honored, and third in the NSIC. As for the men's team, it was honored for its 3.30 GPA, which placed them at the top of the NSIC.
To be honored individually by the USTFCCCA, a student-athlete must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and record an NCAA qualifying mark during their season of competition. Honorees include from the men's team,
Billy Beseman, junior, business administration;
Connor DeJong, senior, biology and secondary education;
Trey Furgeson, fifth-year, exercise science;
Christian Gruschin, junior, elementary education;
Logan Hansen, sophomore, theology and youth ministry;
Jase Kraft, graduate student, exercise science;
Zach Lundberg, junior, business administration and criminal justice; and
Chandler Nelson, junior, business administration. The three women's honorees included
Amber Cook, senior, psychology;
Chloe Peterson, sophomore, media studies and communication; and
Miranda Phipps, junior, entrepreneurial studies.
Founded in 1883, the University of Sioux Falls, located in Sioux Falls, S.D., is a Christian, Liberal Arts University. USF is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
