USF Track and Field/Cross Country Director Doug Petersen adds six more to 2021 recruiting class

Class of 2021 now up to 13 talented student-athletes

SIOUX FALLS, SD -- University of Sioux Falls Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Doug Petersen has announced the signing of six additional student-athletes who will continue their academic and athletic careers at USF this fall. With the new group, USF has signed 13 with nine women and four men joining the program.  
 
The new group of six includes: Olivia Baumberger, jumps/sprints, Colman, S.D.; Gracie Bucher, distance, Windom, Minn.; Kade Bullion, mid distance, Thornton, Colo.; Morgan Gehl, distance, Fulda, Minn.; Morgan Robinson, throws, Spencer, Iowa; and Abbigail Webb, jumps, Des Moines, Iowa. They join the other members of the Class of 2021 which includes: Caleb Rivera, distance, St. James, Minn.; Ella Kolb, distance, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jakob Hanna, 5'10, distance/mid-distance, Brandon, S.D.; Ethan Kraft, middle distance, Lander, Wyo.; Jessica Lutmer, distance, Pierre, S.D.; Kamry Lindsey, throws, Appleton, Wisc.; and Kelly Sondgeroth, distance, Platte, S.D.

"The 2021 recruiting class continues to be of top quality. We've have added a wonderful mixture of athletes on the men's and women's side. As I review the class to this point with more to come, the overall depth is exceptional and we're looking forward to seeing what these student-athletes will be able to contribute to our program. It is a group with amazing potential," said Petersen, who is in his sixth year with USF. "Plus, this entire group is talented in competition but have tremendous character and integrity," he said.

A standout in volleyball, basketball and track and field at Colman/Egan HS, Baumberger scored the most field points for her school's track and field team. Named Academic All-State, she placed first in the long jump, ran on the winning 4x100-meter relay and on the second place 4x200 meter relay in 2019 at the South Dakota Class B Meet. She has personal bests of 13.3 in the 100-meters, 1:03 in the 400 meters and 16-11 in the long jump. In volleyball, she was named DVC All-Conference, All-state and Academic All State while being named the DVC Co-MVP and the Colman-Egan MVP as she led her team to a fourth place finish in 2020. In basketball, she was Academic All-State. She volunteers at her local church (delivering meals, and more). Baumberger, who is the daughter of Mike and Kelly Baumberger, has two siblings, Levin and Avery. She will major in nursing at USF.

A three-sport standout, Bucher ran cross country and track and field and played basketball at Windom Area High School. In cross country,

she was a three-time state qualifier, one-time All State recipient, and four-time All-Big South Conference member. In track and field, Bucher was a state qualifier, an 800m sectional runner-up, was a part of multiple all conference relays, and received 800-meters             awards in the Big South Conference. Her PR's include: 19:36 in the 5k, 5:32 in the 1600, 2:22 in the 800, and 1:01 in the 400. Off the track, Bucher was a part of National Honors     Society, Student Senate, Choir, and the Fall Musical. She has also participated in multiple environmental clean-up events and led children's Bible camps. The daughter of Missy Kuntz and Joey Bucher, she plans to double major in Psychology and Social Work at USF.

Starring in cross country and track and field at Horizon High, Bullion was a three-time state cross country championship qualifier, two-time second team all-conference recipient, first-team all-conference honoree and lettered four years. He was a two-time MVP and also won the Rookie of the Year Award. A member of the Captains Council and Platte River Track Club, he has personal-bests of 2:07 in the 800-meters, 4:48 in the 1,600 meters, 10:34 in the 3,200 meters and 16:53 in the 5,000 meters. The son of Marc and Becki Bullion, who has a sister, Lelia, he volunteers with community outreach programs at his church. Bullion plans to major in exercise science at USF.

A three-sport standout in basketball, track and field and cross country, Gehl won the Minnesota Cross Country championship as a junior after placing third as a sophomore and fourth as a freshman. She was also eighth as an eighth grade standout and 67th as a seven grader. As a

sophomore, she was third in the mile and two-mile at the state meet. She placed fourth in the mile and two-mile as a freshman and was fifth at the state meet in the two-mile as an eighth grader. Involved with the National Honors Society, she was a guard on the basketball team. She is the daughter of Clayton and Faye Gehl and has three brothers, Ben, Keith and Jon. She plans to major in physical therapy at USF.

A standout in the throws at Spencer High, Robinson is a four-year varsity letter winner, who was all-conference as a sophomore in track. Robinson, who competed in swimming, basketball, softball and track and field in high school, set a personal-best of 36-5 ¾ in the shot put and 99'7 in the discus. She has been on the A-Honor Roll all four years, academic letter winner four times, member of FFA, and National Honors Society. She earned a Presidential Scholarship for test scores.  Robinson does volunteer work with the FFA and the Key Club. The daughter of Kevin and Becky Robinson, she has a brother, Brody. Robinson plans to major in applied mathematics and computer science at USF.

Abbigail Webb

Webb is an exceptional performer in the jumps/sprints. At East High in Des Moines, she was a conference champion in the long jump with a top performance of 17-1 ¾. A four-year varsity performer, she was also a member of the National Honors Society. The daughter of Kym Webb and Nick Webb, she has a brother, Aubrey. At USF, she plans to major in psychology and social work.
