USF Track and Field's Emma Hertz named NSIC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Hertz recorded the second best throw in the shotput & 7th best weight throw in NCAA DII

BURNSVILLE, MINN. – After a stellar performance in the opening meet of the season, senior throws standout Emma Hertz of the University of Sioux Falls Women's Track and Field Program has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

In her first competition since CoVID-19 halted competition over 10 months ago, Hertz had a dominating performance in winning both the shot put and weight throw at the Wayne State Indoor Classic on Jan. 17. Hertz, a senior from Sioux Falls O'Gorman, recorded NCAA DII provisional marks with throws that placed her high among national leaders.

A two-time indoor All-American, Hertz won the shot put by recording the second-best throw in NCAA DII at 49-10.50 (15.20 meters). Hertz also broke her own school record of 49-9.25, which she set in 2019. In winning the weight throw, Hertz registered the seventh best performance in the nation with a toss of 58'9.50. Her weight throw toss ranked third all-time at USF.

Hertz, a psychology and coaching major at USF, has registered 27 top-three finishes and 15 titles while finishing second 10 more times in either the shot put or discus indoors and outdoors. With her performance this weekend, she was the NSIC Field of the Week for a second time (indoor or outdoor).

She will compete with her USF teammates at the Dakota Realty Invitational at the University of South Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 23.
