BURNSVILLE, MINN. – Senior thrower
Emma Hertz of the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team, who had a pair of NCAA DII marks and top four throws at the South Dakota Challenge this week, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Field Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday, April 12.

Hertz has earned the NSIC Field Athlete of the Week award three times in her career. Along with today (April 12), Hertz was honored with the Indoor Field Athlete honor on Jan. 19, 2021 and earned her second Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on May 6, 2019.
A four-time All-American, Hertz had a dominant weekend at the South Dakota Challenge at the University of South Dakota on April 9-10, which included competitors from NCAA DI and DII at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion, S.D.
Hertz won both the discus and shot put and recorded top-four NCAA DII marks at the South Dakota Challenge. In the women's shot shot put on Saturday afternoon, Hertz had a winning throw of 15.45m – 50-08.25, which ranks second all-time at USF to her own record throw outdoors of 51-0.5 in 2019. The mark is an NCAA DII Provisional mark and ranks first in the NSIC as well as second in NCAA DII. Her winning discus on Friday of 50-19 - 164'8 is also the top throw in the NSIC and a DII provisional mark. In the national rankings, she is fourth in the discus with a throw that is second at USF all-time to her 2019 throw of 169-2.25.
During her stellar career, Hertz has collected 23 titles indoor and outdoor with nine indoor shot put titles in 2021 that includes the 2021 NSIC Indoor shot put crown. She has seven outdoor shot put titles, six in the discus and one in the hammer throw and owns an indoor weight throw titles. In the indoor/outdoor meets this season, she has a total of 11 titles with 15 top-three finishes. Across her career, she has 40 top-three finishes.
Hertz and the USF Track and Field Team will compete at the Sioux City Relays on Friday, April 16 in Sioux City, Iowa.
