Emily Swanson is fifth in the heptathlon to highlight the University of Sioux Falls performances today at the Multi-Event competition which opened the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Track and Field Championship today (May 13). In the men's competition,
Ethan Holm is 14
th after one day of competition.
The multi-event competition will begin on Friday morning and wrap up later in the day.
Olson, a senior who was the NSIC leader in the heptathlon coming into the meet, ranked number one through four events by placing second in two events and fourth in another. She has totaled 2,706 points as events were contest in the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter run. The long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run will be contested on Friday. Freshman
Emily Swanson finished the day with 2,612 points, including a second-place finish in the high jump.
Breaking it down by events shows Olson finished second in the 100-meter hurdles by clocking a 14.99 and earning 843 points. She placed 13
th in the high jump at 4-10.25 (1.48m) with 599 points. In the shot put, she earned 560 points by throwing the oval object 34-04.25 – 10.47m and placing second. She also finished fourth with a clocking of 27.10 in the 200 meters for 704 points.
As for Swanson, was earned 711 points by placing 13th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.03. In the high jump she was second at 5-03.00, 1.60m, which earned her 736 points. The jump is a top-10 mark all-time at USF. Swanson was 12
th in the shot put with her throwing of 31-08-00 -9.65m. She received 507 points in the shot put. Swanson was 14
th in the 200-meter dash in 27.66 and that gave her 658 points.
In the men's decathlon,
Ethan Holm finished 14
th after day one with 1,469 points. He earned 633 points in running a 12.09 in 100-meters for 14
th place. He also earned 440 points in the shot put with a throw of 30-03.5 – 9.23m, which placed him 10
th in that competition. He received 396 points by going 4-11.5 – 1.51m in the high jump. On Friday, the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meter run will be contested.
