SIOUX FALLS --
Ian Dildine has been named an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field/Cross Country Program, according to an announcement by
Doug Petersen, Director of the Track and Field/Cross Country Programs.
Dildine, who most recently was a coach with the NCAA DI University of South Dakota Track and Field Team, will coach jumps at USF.
"We are excited to add Ian to the coaching staff. He will bring a new dimension to the jumps group that we will make a difference for our program. His knowledge of the jumps area of the program will help in our development of student-athletes on a day-to-day basis. With his experience, our ultimate goal is to be more impactful with our jumps squad at the NSIC league meets," said Petersen.
At USD, Dildine coached the horizontal jumps (long, triple) and coached the 2020 Men's Summit League Indoor long jump champion Zach Andersen, who later finished sixth at the Olympic Trials in the high jump. In addition, four USD athletes finished in the top-three at the Summit League Championships in 2020 and 2021. Dildine also assisted with the day-to-day training of Chris Nielsen, the 2020 Olympic Silver Medalist in the pole vault, while he was at USD.
"I am excited about coaching the USF jumps squad and being part of the USF Track and Field program. I look forward to working with the student-athletes and staff here. I am appreciative of Coach
Doug Petersen for bringing me here and giving me this opportunity," said Dildine.
Before coaching at USD, Dildine was at Fresno City College where he worked with the sprints, jumps and combined event groups. He also spent his final year of college working at Bullard High School (Fresno, Calif.) as an assistant track and field coach.
Dildine graduated with his Bachelor's degree in exercise science in June of 2018 from Central Washington where he competed in the horizontal jumps and sprints for the Wildcats. He is in the process of completing his master's degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management at USD.
