USF Women's 4x800 meter relay squad sets school record to highlight a series of top-10 program marks at SDSU Indoor Classic

In total, USF had seven different top-10 program marks by its distance group at SDSU

BROOKINGS, SD – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Track and Field 4x800 meter relay broke a 20-year old record to highlight a series of top-10 program marks by the Cougars men's and women's teams at the SDSU Indoor Classic on Friday at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

The team of sophomore Cassidy O'Meara, sophomore Annika Aho, junior Tianna Voigt and freshman Gracie Bucher clocked a school record 4x800 relay time of 9:28.09 for third place in the race. This squad bettered the 9:29.73 clocking of the 2002 team that included LaRae McDonald, Mary Fouberg, Melissa Ramos and Jill Kmetz.

"We knew before the race that the ladies had a shot at the record and everyone ran well and we had a great team effort," said USF Director of Track and Field Doug Petersen, whose track and field squad will head to the NSIC Indoor Challenge on Saturday in Mankato, Minn. "We had many other outstanding efforts today including Khot (Juac) in the 3K, Morgan (Gehl) in the 5K and Dave (Ecker) in the 5K. All had honor roll efforts. We also had several personal best marks today and lots of great energy from this group," he said.

In the men's 5,000 meter run, junior David Ecker clocked a 14:36.19 and finished ninth and fifth among NSIC runners. For the third time this year, he had a top-10 program mark with the fourth best 5K mark at USF as he improved he best time by 19 seconds. Junior Aaron Voigt finished 24th in 15:11.75 which ranks 10th all-time and betters his better previous mark by nearly 14 seconds. Also in the race, sophomore Micade Shumway was 33rd in 15:23.99 and freshman Avery Stanford 58th in 16:38.17 as both runners had personal-bests.

Freshman Morgan Gehl had another strong performance by clocking 17:38.55 in the 5,000 meter run and placed seventh as she established the second best-indoor 5K time in school history, just missing the top mark of Ashley Unruh of 17:36.35 in 2011. She now has top-10 program indoor marks in three events this year. In the same race, junior Karlee Simmons was 25th in 18:37.35 with the seventh best program mark in school history. Also for USF freshman Jessica Lutmer at 39th in 19:29.82.

Freshman Khot Juac led USF Women's Team in the 3,000 meter run as she clocked 10:26.47 to finish eighth and sixth among NSIC runners in a competitive field. In the noteworthy performance, Juac recorded the third best mark in USF's indoor history in the event. Freshman Kayleigh Whipps was 16th as she had a personal-best 3K of 10:48.23.

In the men's 3K, Caleb Rivera was 18th with a clocking of 8:44.91 which ranks ninth all-time in USF program history. Justin Steffensmeier was 36th with a clocking of 9:06.62 while Isaac Dold was 54th in 9:36.85 and Ashton Schnaser was 58th in 9:59.36.
