Cougar Wrestling Opens Season with 10 Placers at Jimmie Open

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – USF Men's Wrestling opened the 2025-26 season at the Jimmie Open today with 24 wrestlers competing with 10 placers lead by Bray Skinner, Beau BeaversSonny Lora and Stetson Davis

"Overall I felt we had a pretty good start to the season," stated Head Coach Matt Meuleners. "The finals obviously didn't go the way we wanted, but we did a lot of good things to put ourselves in those matches. Today was the first step in the right direction for our season and there is a lot to look forward to for Cougar Wrestling."

At 133-pounds, Bray Skinner opened the day with a 9-1 major decision over Brody Toledo of MSU Moorhead followed by a 9-0 major decision over Northern State's Carson Petry and a 6:55 pin over Andrew Worthington of Minot State to advance to the championship match. Skinner fell to UMary's Jacob Strausbaugh in a medical default finishing the day 3-1 along with a 2nd place finish  

Cyler Ruhoff also competed at 133-pounds today coming away with a 4th place finish while going 3-2 on the day. Ruhoff opened the day with a 6-4 default win over Rayden Zens of Northern State followed by an 11-8 sudden victory decision over UMary's Gabe Mortensen before falling to UMary's Jacob Strausbaugh in a 3:55 pin in the semifinals. Ruhoff defeated John Kenney in a 4-2 decision to advance to the 3rd place match where he dropped a close 8-5 sudden victory against Northern State's Clay Gates. 

At 141-pounds, Beau Beavers dominated the first two rounds with an 4:17 pin over Korbin Bateman of Bismarck State and a 9-0 major decision over Jamestown's Kellan Larson. Beavers defeated Koltyn Grebel of UMary in a 6-4 decision to advance to the championship match to take on North Dakota State's Zytavius Williams. Beavers fell to Zytavius Williams of North Dakota State in an 8-1 decision finishing the day 3-1 with a 2nd place finish. 

Sonny Lora powered his way through the 149-pound bracket with an opening round 18-1, 2:33 tech fall over Jamestown's Ethan Holstein. Lora followed a dominating performance with a quick 0:39 pin over UMary's Owen Lonski and a 20-11 major decision over Danyk Jacobsen of UMary to advance to the championship match. Lora fell to UMary's Anthony Nunes in an 18-1, 3:51 tech fall finishing the day 3-1 with a 2nd place finish. 

Also at 149-pounds, Sir Brandon Watts finished 6th after going 3-3 on the day. Watts opened the day with an 18-2, 4:11 tech fall over Dalton Hinebauch before dropping a 7-2 decision to UMary's Anthony Nunes. Watts battled back with a 15-0, 2:11 tech fall over Minot State's Guerrero Brayden and a 12-11 decision over Alvy Henderson of Jamestown before falling to Danyk Jacobsen in a 16-7 major decision to send him to the 5th place match. Watts Fell to No. 20 Kaden DeCoteau of UMary in a 4:23 pin. 

Cooper Sanders finished 5th at 157-pounds. Sanders opened the day with a 5:49 pin over Roman Leifridt of Minot State before falling to Trae Thilmony of UMary in an 18-14 decision. Sanders defeated Brandan Winn-Kelly with a 4:54 pin followed by a 4-0 decision over teammate Lincoln Fink before falling to Maverick Mueller of UMary in an 8-4 decision to send himself to the 5th place match where he defeated Gunner Hostetter of MSU Moorhead with a 2:58 pin. Sanders finished the day 4-2 overall. 

At 165-pounds, Luke Swanson opened the day with demanding tech fall wins over Jamestown's Pablo Garcia (18-2, 2:08) and MSU Moorhead's Edon Davis (21-4, 6:36). Swanson dropped a close 11-8 sudden victory decision to Northern State's Mason Schrempp. In the consolation bracket, Swanson dominated Minot State's John Armstrong in a 19-4, 1:41 tech fall before falling to No.17 Lane Ewing of UMary in a 15-2 major decision finishing the day 3-2 with a 4th place finish. 

Hank Meyer made his collegiate debut at 197-pounds. After dropping the opening round to North Dakota State's Adam Cherne in a 1:29 pin, Meyer responded with a 2:30 pin over Ashton Zimney of Bismarck State and a 4:44 pin over the Mystics' William Roundy. Meyer defeated Shafer Ehmke of Minot State with a 1:02 pin before falling to Ryan Hirschkorn of Northern State in a 10-0 major decision to finish the day with a 4th place finish and 3-2 on the day. 

At 285-pounds, Stetson Davis opened the day with a 7-1 decision over UMary's Aidyn Mitchell before defeating Roy Rude in the semifinals in a 7-4 decision. Davis fell to No. 6 Luke Tweeton of UMary in a 7-1 decision to finish 2-1 on the day with a 2nd place finish. 

Jesse Garcia also wrestled at 285-pounds for the Cougars today, dropping the first round in a 19-3, 5:42 tech fall to UMary's No. 6 Luke Tweeton. Garcia responded with a 6-1 decision over UMary's Aidyn Mitchell followed by a 5-0 decision over MSU Moorheads Isaiah Wright. Garcia fell to No. 20 Nathan Schauer of Northern State in a 2:46 pin before defeating Carmine Morton of MSU Moorhead in an 8-5 decision to take 5th place and finish 3-2 on the day.
