NEW ORLEANS – For the ninth straight year, the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Program was awarded team and individual honors for academic success by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (
USTFCCCA).
USF, led by Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Doug Petersen, earned men's and women's All-Academic team awards while four student-athletes were honored with all-academic honors.
To be honored as an All-Academic team, the program must maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes honored must have a 25 GPA and achieved an automatic-or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
"We are exceptionally proud of the student-athletes in the track and field/cross country program, who excel in the classroom and in competition. With top 13 overall results by both the men's and women's teams, it speaks to their dedication and commitment to academics," said Petersen.
The women's squad was honored for its cumulative GPA of 3.598, which was 13
th among the 130 women's teams honored. As for the men's team, it was among seventh among the 86 teams honored with a 3.375 GPA.
The USF student-athletes recognized included
Mason Phillips, USF Men's Track and Field; and
Taylor Stoltz,
Kayla Andersen and
Miranda Phipps, USF Women's Track and Field.
During the NCAA DII era, the USF Track and Field/Cross Country Program has a combined five national champions, 58 All-Americans, 442 Academic All-NSIC performers, 432 All-NSIC honorees and three Elite 90 Award recipients.
Founded in 1883, the University of Sioux Falls, located in Sioux Falls, S.D., is a Christian, Liberal Arts University. USF is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
