USF Track and Field shines again with 28 top-eight and seven top-10 program marks at the NSIC Indoor Challenge

MANKATO, MINN. – The shine on their performances continues to get brighter for the University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Track and Field Team, which compiled 28 top-eight finishes, 14 personal-bests and seven program top-10 marks at the NSIC Indoor Challenge on Saturday (Feb. 12) at the Myers Field House.

"We had another great weekend with competition at SDSU and with the NSIC Indoor Challenge today in Mankato," said USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Petersen, whose team will go to the BH Stinger Open in Spearfish, S.D., on Feb. 18-19 and the SDSU Last Chance Meet on Feb. 19 in advance of the NSIC Championships on Feb. 25-26. "Our athletes showed great intensity in their performances today as they solidified their spots on the conference teams. We have many athletes poised and ready to make an impact at those NSIC Championships in a couple of weeks," he said.

Tyler Hiatt had another huge day for the USF Men's squad after tying for first in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw at the meet. In the shot put, Hiatt had an NCAA DII provisional mark with his personal-best throw of 17.33 meters – 56-10.25 which ranks second all-time at USF. He also was fourth in the weight throw after recording a throw of 17.02 meters – 55-10.75.

Also for the men's team, sophomore Ben Mandel improved on his 60-meter hurdles time by recording a personal-best of 8.32 and placing fifth. With that time, he tied Alex Anderson (2010) for fourth all-time at USF.

In the sprints, Joseph Donahue had a pair of top eight finishes. He had a personal-best 7.06 in the prelims and finished fifth in 7.08 in the finals. In the 200-meter dash, he was eighth with his personal best of 22.97 which ranks tied for 10th all-time in program history with Chris Koletzky in 2003.

Freshman Khot Juac had another stellar run by finishing fourth with a personal-best clocking of 5:17.57, which ranks seventh all-time at USF.

In the high jump, sophomore Emily Swanson, who competed in four different events (60-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, 4x400 meters relay) today, had the fourth-best jump in program history in finishing third with a jump of 1.64 meters – 5-04.50. She was just short of her personal best at 5-05. She also just missed her personal-best of 9.20 in the 60-meter hurdles with a clocking of 9.21 and claiming sixth. Swanson's 60-meter hurdles mark ranks eighth all-time in program history.

Junior KaNya Henderson had another quality sprint in the 60-meter dash, finishing third in 7.71 and just off her season-best of 7.70.

Senior Emma Hertz had another solid effort in the weight throw in which she finished second at 18.82 meters and a 61-09. It would be a top-10 program mark and among her personal top-five in her career indoors.
