USF Track and Field had many impressive showings at the USD Invite

VERMILLION – The University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams were highlighted by provisional marks in the field events and Emma Hertz recorded two NCAA DII results as they competed in the USD Invite Saturday afternoon. 

Men's team results

Shodo Mahamed took first in the men's 5,000-meter run with a 16:08.48 clocking. Teammate Mitchell Mund was fourth (16:47.84), while Whyatt Schlager claimed fifth (17:00.22) John Noyes was sixth (17:06.60) and Blake Johnston was seventh (17:39.25)

The USF distance contingent of Mason Phillips, Zach Lundberg, and Jase Kraft produced a solid outing on Saturday afternoon in the men's 1,500-meter run. Phillips ran a second place time of 3:54.53, while Lundberg claimed third (3:54.80) and Kraft took fourth (3:56.52). The USF trio was only surpassed by USD runner Eldon Warner who ran a 3:53.23 clip. 

Patrick Hagan placed third in the men's javelin throw at 52.97-meters (173' 9"). He was the highest placing DII athlete in the event. 

Tristan Zawadzki recorded the highest DII placing in the pole vault with a NCAA DII provisional fourth place jump of 5.16 meters (16' 11"). Only DI athletes surpassed his bar height. 

USF athlete Jonathan Rowe made his 2019 debut in the long jump with a fourth place finish of 6.03 meters (19' 9.5"). 

The USF 4X400 'A' relay squad of Logan Hansen, Billy Beseman, Lundberg and Phillips placed fifth with a 3:25.58 clocking. The 'B' team of Kraft, Aaron Voigt, David Ecker and Daniel Armstrong placed eighth after a 3:37.63 showing.

Cooper Wood placed fifth in the men's triple jump with a jump of 13.50-meters (44' 3.5").

In the men's discuss, Chandler Nelson placed sixth with a throw of 49.80-meters (163' 4.75"). He  was also seventh in the shot put with a NCAA provisional distance of 15.14-meters (49' 8.25"). 

USF hurdler Jacob Morse finished sixth in the men's 110-meter hurdles after a 15.10 run. 

Daniel Armstrong took sixth in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase (9:52.21) just edging out teammate Josh Liester who claimed seventh in the event with a 9:58.87 clocking. 

In the 800-meter run, senior Billy Beseman captured eighth by running 1:57.05. Beseman just edged out teammate Logan Hansen who finished in 1:57.65.

Women's team results

Emma Hertz took the second overall throw in the discus by throwing the oval with a NCAA DII top-10 distance of 49.34-meters (161' 10"). Teammate Jaimie McNamee was fourth (150' 3") and Kayla Andersen took 10th (42.29-meters, 139' 9").

Hertz also threw another NCAA DII top-10 distance in the women's shot put with a finals throw of 14.73- meters (48' 4"). 

Senior Amber Cook took sixth in the women's hammer throw with a final distance of 49.99-meters (164' 0"). McNamee was eighth after throwing for a distance of 49.86-meters (163' 7"). 

USF sophomore Taryn Ceglowski finished ninth in the women's 1,500-meter run with a 4:45.53 showing. The only DII runner ahead of Ceglowski was Bree Erickson from U-Mary, who recorded a 4:38.16 clocking. 

In the women's 100-meter dash, Chloe Peterson placed sixth (12:13) and was the third fastest DII runner in the event with Grace Hartman and Khenadi Jones of Minnesota State taking first and fifth respectively. USF sprinter Kenya Henderson was eighth (12.25). 

Taylor Stoltz claimed eighth in the women's high jump with a height of 1.55-meters (5' 1"). 

Allison Laibach produced a ninth place finish in the triple jump after a 11.04-meter (36' 2.75") jump. Also for USF Bengston was ninth in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 22.56-meters (74' 0.25"). Sarah Troescher claimed 10th in the woman's 200-meter dash (25.48) while teammate Kenya Henderson was 11th (25.55).  

USF will next compete in the Sioux City Relays on April 12-13 in Sioux City, Iowa.
