MANKATO, MINN. – BROOKINGS, S.D. – University of Sioux Falls Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Peterson was exceptionally pleased the way the USF Track and Field Teams finished the regular season indoor schedule with stellar efforts in distance, sprints, throws and jumps at competitions at Minnesota State and South Dakota State University.
In total the Cougars had 16 top-5 finishes, four titles, six NCAA DII provisional marks, a school record and seven program-top-10 marks.
"It was a great way to end the regular season," said Peterson. "We were excited the way our student-athletes stepped up on Friday. They showed great effort this weekend," he said.
At SDSU, USF's throwers shined. junior
Emma Hertz, who won the shot put title at the SDSU Last Chance Meet with an NCAA Provisional mark of 14.75 meters (48-04.75). The throw by Hertz ranks second all-time indoors at USF. In addition, Hertz finished third in the weight throw with a program top-10 mark and an NCAA provisional mark of 18.03 meters (59-01.75. Also in the weight throw,
Jaimie McNamee continued her outstanding winter campaign with an NCAA provisional mark of 17.91 meters (58-09) in the weight throw. Kayla Anderson was sixth with a throw of 17.09 meters (56-00.75) while
Kourtney Rozeboom was 11
th, 15.97m (52.04.75) and senior
Carla Walquist, 14
th, 15.26m (50-00.78), which earned her a spot in the program's top 10. Also in the shot put, Rozeboom was 12
th, 12.15m (39-10.25) while Anderson was 13
th, 12.01M (39-04.75).
On the men's side at SDSU, senior
Chandler Nelson had a personal best and top 10 program mark by finishing sixth in 15.34 m (50-04) in the shot put.
Jaymeson Wolkow was 15
th, 13.04m (42-09.5) while
Thomas Chapin was 17
th, 11.46M (37-07.25). In the weight throw, Wolkow was 13
th, 11.7m (38-04.75) with Carson Hausman, 14
th, 11.55m (37-10.75).
Henderson cracks 60M school mark at MSU
At the MSU Invitational,
Kanya Henderson continued her outstanding indoor season by winning the 60-meter dash with a school record and NCAA DII provisional mark of 7.62 seconds. USF's
Sarah Troescher was second with 7.72.
Junior
Taryn Ceglowski captured a title in the 800-meter run in 2:14.63, which met the NCAA DII provisional standard. In the same race, sophomore
Tianna Wald was ninth in 2:27.31 while junior
Sadie Thompson was 11
th in 2:31.78.
In the women's 400-meter dash, junior
Mercy Oyadare was second in 59.73, which vaults her into the program's top10. In that same race freshman
Emma Kenkel was 11
th in 1:02.37 with freshman
Holly Mayers, 12
th, 1:02.40 while sophomore
Zoe Cigard was 17
th, 1:05.01.
USF also had a couple of other student-athletes to earn top-10 program marks. In the 1000 meters, freshman
Annika Aho finished eighth in 3:05.83 which moved her into USF's top 10 all-time.
In the long jump, freshman
Natalie Meyers was fourth in 5.37m (17-07.5) which was another top 10 program mark. The USF Women's Team also had a fifth place finish from
Carolyn Groeger in the pole vault as she had a vault of 3.20m (10-06). Sophomore
Taylor Stoltz finished fourth in the high jump by going 1.58m (5-02.25). In addition, senior
Clara Paul was 12
th in the triple jump at 10.54m (34-07) and freshman
Cassidy Noeldner was 14
th, 10.21m (33-06).
On the men's side at MSU, senior
Tristan Zawadzki had another NCAA DII provisional mark in the pole vault. For the third time this winter, he has reached that mark by going 4.80m (15-09) in claiming a title at MSU. Also in the vault, sophomore Jake Peterson was 10
th in 4.05m (13-03.5).
In the sprints senior
Jonathan Rowe was second in the 60 meter dash in 6.96 while sophomore
Nate Andrusick claimed fourth in 7.01. Freshman
Nate Grotewold was fourth in the 600-meter dash in 2:27.63. Freshman
Jace Burma took eighth in the 800-meters with a 2:05.06 clocking. In the 1000 meters, freshman
Wil Modjeski took fourth in 2:39.97 while freshman
Diego Jaimes was seventh in 2:45.69.
In the long jump, freshman
Christian Riley was third in 6.36M (20-10.5) while sophomore
Ethan Holm was ninth in 5.74M (18-10). In the triple jump, freshman
Isiah Dancy was fifth in 12.62M (41-04.75).
USF also had five runners in the top 14 in the 3,000-meters, led by freshman
Sam Ricker, who was fifth in 9:10.85. Others in the race included sophomore Seth Overhold, 7
